UK Case Study - Noise Mapping
Introduction
Features
Introduction
The United Kingdom Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) commissioned the design and build of an environmental noise modelling system (NMS). The NMS has been developed to support the implementation of CNOSSOS-EU in England in preparing its environmental noise evidence base by preparing national road and railway noise models. Besides sensitivity testing of the road and railway source emission models, developing localised input data for road traffic flows, road surfaces & road junctions; railway and light rail vehicles; ground cover, meteorology and calculation settings for propagation modelling, NMS’ system design has incorporated with open data standards developed to support both internal data process workflows, and interaction with third party systems.
ODEN Noise Mapping web-based environmental modelling tool, coupled with LimA propagation calculations, is the web portal and User Operating Interface component of NMS which was deployed upon the following off-the-shelf software components:
• Web application firewall – Security
• MS Azure Database for PostgreSQL– Hyperscale
• Safe Software FME server – Data integration and processing
• Azure CycleCloud – HPC orchestrator
Features
- Project-level & CNOSSOS-EU Noise Mapping
- Cloud, HPC Secured Solutions
- ODEN Turkey platform+ integrated IT components
- Automated Data Update
- National Deployment since 2024 !
Environmental Database
What is an Environmental Database (ED)?
Environmental database is a centralized digital platform that encompasses data including air, water quality, noise, ecological data and environment-related notifications etc., that aggregates and visualizes environmental data comprehended by the Geotechnical Information System (GIS), analysis Tools, and real-time monitoring tools.
Why ED & its Benefits?
The introduction video covers essential features for managing a geographic project, including creating and saving projects, searching locations, geo-referencing plans, and importing 3D models. It also explains how to manage layers and conduct influence analysis, providing a comprehensive overview to enhance your project’s accuracy and effectiveness.
The introduction video explains how toImport the Assessment Result
The introduction video explains how to import data layers and create new layers for your project. It covers configuring user groups and layer data, as well as adding layer data into the global tree structure. This guidance ensures effective organization and management of your project’s data and user permissions.
