Introduction
Since 2019, Hessen, a highly populated German state with over 6 million population and also where the country’s principal financial centre of Frankfurt is located, has adopted ODEN noise mapping solution to streamline END Noise Mapping and Action Planning activities. In Hessen, the Hessian Agency for Nature Conservation, Environment and Geology (HLNUG) utilized ODEN noise mapping at 3 major levels :
Community Level, to provide updated model data & perform regional environmental impact assessment such as during noise action planning.
Regional Level i.e. “Regierungspräsidien” (RP), to perform noise action planning at regional level which may affect several communities
Ministerial Level, to provide easy insight (read only) into the status/results of environmental analysis.
Further, in the 2022 END noise mapping round of EU, mapping of environmental noise were created by ODEN on the basis of Hesse-wide uniform basic data supplemented by locally collected data. Besides, HLNUG in cooperation with the “Thüringer Landesamts für Umwelt, Bergbau und Naturschutz” (TLUBN) also utilized ODEN to streamline END Noise Mapping and to coordinate state wide activities for mapping, noise action planning and air pollution analysis by various participants.
